Fall has arrived and as we enter October one cannot help but reminisce that the Great Pumpkin will soon bring gifts for all the children! (or so we have been told).
The Charlie Brown Short “The Great Pumpkin” is one of those all-time classics most people look forward to. So, we decided to try our hand at creating outdoor (or indoor) depictions of this famous cartoon. Each week, we will be making available one (or more) of the characters. If you would like to get started giving it a try, here is what you will need……
Things You Will Need:
- The Snoopy Download. You can get it here
Download: The Great Pumpkin - Snoopy and Friends
1 file(s) 6.28 MB - One or more of the following PLA colors:
- Black
- White
- Orange
- “Skin tone”
- Blue
- Red
- Green
You should also be able to paint these figures instead if you choose, as we are going with a “different layer height” concept for printing them. So painting them (by hand) should be pretty easy.
If you would like suggested vendor links for the above colors, here they are:
- Jayo PLA+ Black
- Jayo PLA+ White
- 3D Fila Orange
- Jayo “Skin tone”
- Solutech Real Blue
- 3D Fila Red
- CERPRiSE Green
Printing
We have set up each print so that any standard FDM printer will work using 20% infill with a .2 layer height. Where each color change needs to take place, the filament layer is at a different height. So, when printing, you have a couple of options.
- Print using different color filaments, pausing the filament at the appropriate layer, and changing it. Check out are article “Lets Make Tracks” on this if you need help on how this is done (https://www.imagination-3d.com/adapted-designs-lets-make-tracks/)
- Print it all in one “base color” and then paint the rest. For each of the figures, we would recommend a base filament color of black.
Scaling The Great Pumpkin
If you decided to scale the print up (or down) we would recommend the following scales. This area will be updated as each character becomes available:
Snoopy:
- Indoor “coaster” size
- Scale x and y at 53%, but keep z at 100%
- Outdoor “max size” (if, say you have a 300mm x 300mm bed printer)
- Scale x and y at 125% but keep z at 100% (6.01mm)
This will allow you to always be at the same layer change heights.
Linus:
- Indoor “coaster” size
- Scale x and y at 42%, but keep z at 100%(11mm)
- Outdoor “max size” (if, say you have a 300mm x 300mm bed printer)
- Scale x, y and z at 100%
Charlie Brown:
- Indoor “coaster” size
- Scale x and y at 69%, but keep z at 100%(12mm)
- Outdoor “max size” (if, say you have a 300mm x 300mm bed printer)
- Scale x, y and z at 147%
Sally:
- Indoor “coaster” size
- Scale x and y at 30%, but keep z at 100%(13mm)
- Outdoor “max size” (if, say you have a 300mm x 300mm bed printer)
- Scale x, y and z at 65%
Lucy:
- Indoor “coaster” size
- Scale x and y at 35%, but keep z at 100%(11mm)
- Outdoor “max size” (if, say you have a 300mm x 300mm bed printer)
- Scale x, y and z at 65%

Outdoor Mounting
If you wish to mount your characters outside, we came up with a bracket that you can glue to the back of each “full size” character. Glue the bracket, with the holes facing down, like this:
There are two holes in each bracket. These have been designed to use standard Dollar store foam brush handles. It’s a cheap effective way to display our outdoor signs.
We hope you enjoy displaying your Peanuts characters. Be sure to watch each week as new ones show up. And stay tuned. Who knows, perhaps we will do a set for Christmas!
